Writing Proficiency in the 21st Century

Writing Proficiency in the 21st Century

Our students have been defined as the "digital natives," growing and learning in a society in which new technology tools are available daily. Literacy involves reading, writing and speaking our ideas, opinions and beliefs articulately. Do students continue to develop strong communication and literacy skills when they are seemingly spending a great deal less time writing and speaking? How does texting and chatting and blogging impact their literacy and communication skills? What is the balance between speaking, listening, writing on a computer versus away from a computer?
It is proposed that teachers and students should work together to establish communication expectations.
