A RACIST FIRST?

A RACIST FIRST?

According to One News:

"The "two Wongs" joke by Winston Peters is making headlines around the world.

The New Zealand First leader is refusing to apologise for the joke about Chinese that has been labelled shameful and racist.

During a speech on Sunday, Mr Peters told a meeting "As they say in Beijing, two Wongs don't make a white".

The South China Morning Post, The Rakyat Post and The Australian were among international media who reported on the story of what they called the 'under-fire New Zealand lawmaker'.

Mr Peters thinks the joke was funny.

"The truth is the Chinese guy in Beijing told me that. And he thought it was funny. And I still think it's funny," Mr Peters told ONE News.

But the Race Relations Commissioner, Dame Susan Devoy, doesn't see the humour.

"I think it's extraordinarily offensive. And I think it's not a joke, it's not funny. And I think Winston and others actually need to move beyond that," she said."

Peters' 'joke' is undoubtedly racist, on any standard. Is this appropriate behaviour for a political leader? Does it reflect well on New Zealand? Should Peters apologise? What do you think?
It is proposed that Winston Peters should apologise for his racist remark
